I spent a long weekend in Petropolis which is about four hours from Belo Horizonte. Petropolis is a famous old city in Rio de Janeiro state.  In the early days as a Portuguese colony Brazil had an emperor.  Don Pedro II chose Petropolis as his summer residence because of the cooler climate and it's proximity (68 km) from the capital city at the time, Rio de Janeiro.

It's a beautiful, beautiful city and well worth spending a weekend there.  But the star attraction for me was the The Imperial Museum of Brazil.  This was the offical residence of the emperor during his reign.  ♦
