After a week in Guanajuato for work I went to San Miguel de Allende for the weekend. It's about two hours away. I'd heard about this place before. It's really one of the nicest little towns I've been to. Cobblestone streets, old colontial buildings, and an awesome church in the central plaza unlike any other you'll see in Mexico. Lots of rooftop patio, sidewalk bars, and courtyard restaurants. Loved it.
On the last day we went back to Guanajuato to catch our flight and I got seriously sick. I wasn't feeling well when I woke up and it just got worse as the day went on. In the end we were at the gate waiting to get on the plane. I couldn't stop shivering and my stomach felt terrible. My friend Isabelle called for a doctor or someone to come. After checking me out they took me off ot a local hospital for tests to check if it was flu (swine or otherwise). After a few hours I was told I had salmonella poisoning (Typhoid) but the needed to run some more tests to still make sure it wasn't flu. I stayed in bed for two full days cycling between fever and cold sweats.
Anyway, when I was well enough to fly I got the hell out of there. I still don't know what it was that made me sick. Oh well...San Miguel was still great. But I'm getting a typhoid shot before my next trip! ♦
